Who is Reinvest Redding?
Why defund the police?
We are dealing with multiple crises, from Covid-19 to ongoing systemic racism. Businesses are closing and people are struggling on a national level in a lot of ways. Our local city and county budgets reveal the priorities of our current leadership here in Shasta County, but the process of budget approval often happens without much public understanding or input.
With these things in mind, the goals of the People’s Budget are threefold:
1. To help us all understand how our taxes and other funds are being used
2. To create a space for imagining a future that we can survive and thrive in
3. To empower residents to voice demands and priorities for our communities
This survey will provide context for the existing budgets for the City of Redding and Shasta County. It will also give you an opportunity to voice your values and think about how to allocate money to support them.
